The idea of having an MBA association in Quebec emerged at an October 1973 symposium in Sherbrooke that brought together 300 MBA graduates from all backgrounds. From the outset, the founding members established the association’s charter and general regulations, approved in 1974, which it still upholds to this day. The mission they crafted then is still very close to the mission that guides the association’s actions today.

At the meeting to elect the first AMBAQ Board of Directors and Executive Committee in the fall of 1974, the members made sure that both bodies would include representatives of each Quebec university that offered an MBA program.

The association lost no time engaging in a myriad of activities. A bulletin was created and published regularly starting from November of 1975. That year, the association provided members with 9 services and 14 events, including a permanent secretariat, a graduate placement office, a member directory, 18 informal breakfast talks held in Montreal but also in every other major city of Quebec, and the annual conference held on April 24, 1976 at the Auberge des Gouverneurs de Québec.
